University of Florida's Student Government Creates Mentorship Award Named After Brian Burgoon.  In 2021, University of Florida's Student Government created the Brian Burgoon Outstanding Mentorship Award.  The award, approved by unanimous vote of the UF Student Senate, is to be awarded each year by UF's Student Government to a student, faculty member, or alumnus who has dedicated time, knowledge, and energy for the purposes of guiding, nurturing, and supporting University of Florida students.  In addition to being honored as the namesake of the award, Brian also was the inaugural recipient.


Brian Burgoon elected Secretary of UF College of Law Board of Trustees and awarded 2021 S. Austin Peele Distinguished Trustee Award.  In 2021, Brian Burgoon was elected Secretary of the University of Florida College of Law Board of Trustees, the law school’s primary support and advisory board.  In addition, he received the S. Austin Peele Distinguished Trustee Award for his service to the law school.  Brian has served on the Board of Trustees’ executive committee, which sets the strategic direction for the board, since 2019, and on the board since 2016.  He previously served on the board in 2014-15 as President of the UF College of Law Alumni Council.


Brian Burgoon served as UF Law Adjunct Professor.  In Spring 2021, Brian Burgoon served as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida College of Law, teaching a course on lawyer regulation and discipline.

​Brian Burgoon named to "Top 100" Georgia Super Lawyers for 7th consecutive year.  Brian Burgoon was recognized in the 2021 "Top 100" Georgia Super Lawyers list by Atlanta Magazine.  He was previously recognized in the “Top 100” Georgia Super Lawyers list in 2015201620172018, 2019, and 2020 and has been named a Georgia Super Lawyer for the eighth consecutive year.  

Burgoon authors Florida Bar Journal article on lawyer disciplinary process.  Brian Burgoon authored the cover article for the January/February 2021 edition of The Florida Bar Journal, explaining the Florida lawyer disciplinary process.  The article provides a comprehensive overview of the purposes of lawyer discipline; the process and procedure for the investigation and prosecution of complaints against lawyers, including the grievance committee process, pre-trial, trial and post-trial procedures and review; and available disciplinary sanctions and their impact.  


​​Brian Burgoon named to Georgia Trend “Legal Elite” for 11th consecutive year.  Brian Burgoon was named to the 2020 “Legal Elite” by Georgia Trend magazine in the areas of Business Law and Trial.  This is his eleventh consecutive year of being named to the “Legal Elite” lists in both Business Law and Trial (2010-20), and in 2015, he was profiled as a "Legal Elite" top vote receiver in Business Law.

Burgoon named to Best Lawyers in America for second consecutive year.  Brian Burgoon was recognized by his peers in the 2021 edition of Best Lawyers in America in the area of Commercial Litigation.  He was previously recognized in the 2020 edition of Best Lawyers in America.

Burgoon re-appointed to Executive Committee of the UF College of Law Board of Trustees.  In 2020, Brian Burgoon was re-appointed to the Executive Committee of the University of Florida College of Law Board of Trustees. This is his second year serving on the 10-member executive committee, which sets the strategic direction for the Board of Trustees.  He has served on the Board of Trustees since 2016, and previously served on the board in 2014-15.


Brian Burgoon quoted in article profiling UF's new Student Body President.  Brian Burgoon was quoted in an article profiling University of Florida's new Student Body President.  The article also focused on law students who have served as UF's Student Body President.  Burgoon served as UF's Student Body President in 1996-97 while a law student.


Lawyering in the Era of Social Distancing.  Brian Burgoon was among several Florida Bar leaders quoted in an article on lawyering in the era of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.


Brian Burgoon re-elected to Florida Bar Board of Governors; named Program Evaluation Committee Chair; serving 8th Term on Executive Committee.  Brian Burgoon was re-elected to the Florida Bar Board of Governors, and will continue to represent the approximately 15,000 out-of-state members on the Bar’s governing board.  The Board sets policy for the over 108,000-member regulatory bar organization, implements rules and regulations for lawyers, and oversees a $43 million+ budget, lawyer ethics and discipline.  Florida Bar President Dori Foster-Morales appointed Burgoon to serve as Chair of the Florida Bar Program Evaluation Committee, which reviews, evaluates and approves the bar's programs, sections and committees.  He also is serving his eighth term on the bar’s Executive Committee, which acts on behalf of the Florida Bar in between meetings of the Board of Governors.

Burgoon honored with Florida Blue Key’s Myra Morgan Outstanding Mentorship Award.  In December 2019, Brian Burgoon received the Myra Morgan Outstanding Mentorship Award from the President of Florida Blue Key Leadership Honorary.


Burgoon named to UF’s Vice President for Student Affairs Search Committee.  Brian Burgoon was appointed by University of Florida’s Provost to serve on the 2019 search committee for the hiring of UF’s new Vice President for Student Affairs. 

Brian Burgoon named Fla. Bar Disciplinary Review Committee Chair and Executive Committee member.  Florida Bar President John Stewart appointed Brian Burgoon to serve as Chair of the Florida Bar Disciplinary Review Committee, which oversees the prosecution of disciplinary violations committed by Florida lawyers.  He also is serving his seventh term on the Florida Bar Executive Committee, which acts on behalf of the Florida Bar in between meetings of the Board of Governors.


​​Brian Burgoon elected President of the University of Florida Alumni Association.  Brian Burgoon was elected President of the University of Florida Alumni Association.  He has served on the UF Alumni Association’s Board of Directors since 2010, and its executive committee since 2014.  He previously served as President-Elect and Vice President.  He also serves on the University of Florida Foundation National Board of Directors.


Brian Burgoon re-elected to Florida Bar Executive Committee; named Technology Committee Chair.  The Florida Bar Board of Governors re-elected Brian Burgoon as one of its three representatives to the Florida Bar Executive Committee.  In addition, he was named Chair of the Technology Committee.


Brian Burgoon elected to Florida Bar Executive Committee.  The Florida Bar Board of Governors elected Brian Burgoon as one of its three representatives to the 2017-18 Florida Bar Executive Committee.  Brian previously served four years on the Executive Committee, which acts on behalf of the Florida Bar in between meetings of the Board of Governors.

Brian Burgoon appointed chair of subcommittee reviewing Florida Lawyers Assistance program.  Brian Burgoon has been appointed chair of a Florida Bar Board of Governors subcommittee which will review and evaluation the Florida Lawyers Assistance program.  After a 2-year review, the committee finished its second and final phase of its evaluation in 2019.

Brian Burgoon named to 2015 Legal Elite by Georgia Trend, Profiled as Top Vote Receiver in Business Law.  Brian Burgoon was named to the 2015 “Legal Elite” by Georgia Trend magazine in the areas of Business Law and Trial for the sixth consecutive year, and was profiled as a "Legal Elite" top vote receiver in Business Law in 2015.

Brian Burgoon elected President of University of Florida College of Law Alumni Council.  Brian Burgoon was elected 2014-15 president of the University of Florida College of Law Alumni Council.  

Brian Burgoon receives Florida Bar's Tony Boggs Excellence in Discipline Award.  Brian Burgoon was the 2014 recipient of the Florida Bar’s Tony Boggs Excellence in Discipline Award.  Brian was chosen by Florida Bar President Eugene Pettis in recognition of his dedication, integrity, intellectual excellence, and extraordinary work in and on behalf of the lawyer discipline efforts of The Florida Bar.

Brian Burgoon selected as inaugural member of Leadership Council for UF's Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program.  Brian Burgoon was selected as an inaugural member of the Leadership Council for the University of Florida’s Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program.  The Leadership Council is responsible for raising awareness and securing increased private support for the FOS Program that provides full financial assistance to underprivileged first generation college students attending the University of Florida.

Brian Burgoon elected to Florida Bar Executive Committee for 2014-15.  Brian Burgoon was elected by the Florida Bar Board of Governors as one of its three representatives to the Florida Bar Executive Committee.  Brian has served on the Executive Committee since 2011.

Brian Burgoon named Fla. Bar Disciplinary Review Committee Chair and Executive Committee member.  Brian Burgoon was appointed by Florida Bar President Eugene Pettis to serve as the 2013-14 Chair of the Florida Bar Disciplinary Review Committee, which oversees the prosecution of disciplinary violations committed by Florida lawyers.  He also will serve on the Florida Bar Executive Committee.

Brian Burgoon named a Georgia Super Lawyer Rising Star by Atlanta Magazine.   Brian Burgoon was named a Georgia Super Lawyer Rising Star by Atlanta Magazine in 2012 for the fourth consecutive year.  He was previously selected for the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Super Lawyer Rising Star lists.

Brian Burgoon appointed by bar president to 2012-13 Florida Bar Executive Committee.   Florida Bar President Gwynne Young selected Brian Burgoon as one of her two presidential appointments to serve on the Florida Bar Executive Committee for the 2012-13 bar year.

Brian Burgoon appointed to statewide commission to review the Florida lawyer discipline system.   Brian Burgoon was named by Florida Bar President Scott Hawkins to a special statewide commission to review the Florida Bar’s disciplinary system.  The commission, comprised of 33 judges, attorneys and business leaders, was tasked with studying and making recommendations regarding the Bar’s regulation of lawyer conduct, with an eye on the rapidly growing number of Bar members, and in view of recent high-profile matters involving broad-scale misconduct.

Brian Burgoon named Fla. Bar Disciplinary Review Committee Co-Chair and Executive Committee member.  Brian Burgoon was appointed 2011-12 Co-Chair of the Florida Bar Disciplinary Review Committee, and named to the Florida Bar Executive Committee, by Florida Bar President Scott Hawkins.

Brian Burgoon receives 2009 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award from University of Florida.   Brian Burgoon received the 2009 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award from the University of Florida.  The award was established by the university to recognize Gators under 40 who have distinguished themselves in business, community, and service.

Brian Burgoon selected to co-chair Florida Bar Disciplinary Review Committee for 2008-09.   Florida Bar President Jay White appointed Brian Burgoon to serve as 2008-09 Co-Chair of the Florida Bar Disciplinary Review Committee.

Brian Burgoon appointed Chair of Florida Bar Rules Committee.   Brian Burgoon was appointed to serve as 2006-07 Chair of the Florida Bar Rules Committee by Florida Bar President Hank Coxe.  The Rules Committee reviews all amendments to the Rules Regulating the Florida Bar prior to Florida Supreme Court approval. 

Brian Burgoon among out-of-state bar leaders to help replenish storm ravished libraries.   Brian Burgoon was one of the out-of-state Florida Bar leaders to help implement a hurricane relief book drive to replenish children’s books destroyed by Hurricane Charley.  Over 9,000 books were collected and donated to the Charlotte County School District in the drive.
